Slough Mountaineering Group

Welcome to the SMoG website!

Slough Mountaineering Group (SMoG) is a BMC* affiliated mountaineering club and a member club of the British Caving Association#.

We are a group of people who like to get outdoors as much as possible... hill walking, climbing, scrambling, mountain biking, caving and skiing are our main outdoor interests.

The club and name originate from Slough Technical College. Nowadays members live all over Wales and England with some still close to the original Slough base. Your home location does not matter as we catch up with at our regular "away meets".

The club organises weekend trips, normally one a month, to places like the Lake District, Snowdonia, Peak District and traditionally the long Easter weekend in Scotland.  As a BMC affiliated club we have access to low cost accommodation in the heart of some of the UK's most scenic areas with the hills, crags and trails right on the door step. The club mainly uses huts belonging to other clubs and Youth Hostels and occasionally camping/campervaning

We always welcome new members ( you don't have to live anywhere near Slough) so, if you share our love of the outdoors, please have a look through our website and Facebook page and get in touch if you want to know more...

* The BMC (British Mountaineering Council) is the representative body that exists to protect the freedoms and promote the interests of climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers, including ski-mountaineers. The BMC and Slough Mountaineering Group recognise that climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.

# The British Caving Association is the Governing body for Underground Exploration in the United Kingdom. It represents individuals and groups with a genuine interest in caves, karst and associated phenomena, whether from a strictly sporting viewpoint, a scientific viewpoint, or a combination of both.
